Bird Migration Presentation

September 21 | 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM
JoinĀ Master Gardener Robert SanchezĀ for a fascinating look at one of nature’s most remarkable journeys:Ā bird migration.

Each spring and fall, birds travel incredible distances in search of better food, nesting areas, and seasonal habitats–but there is much more behind migration than simply following warmer weather. This presentation will exploreĀ what triggers birds to migrate, how they navigate across vast distances, and how human activity can affect their journeys.

Discover some of the surprising tools birds use to find their way, including the sun, stars, landmarks, and even theĀ Earth’s magnetic field. You’ll also learn how factors such as bright city lights can disrupt nighttime migrators and hear remarkable stories of endurance, including a banded shearwater that traveled an estimatedĀ more than five million miles over its lifetime.

Whether you’re an avid birder or simply curious about the wildlife passing through our skies, this presentation offers an engaging introduction to the science, challenges, and incredible surprises of bird migration.
